I was born in Vernon but have grown up in Kamloops. After graduating from Brocklehurst Secondary, I took a year and travelled to New Zealand and Australia on a holiday/work visa. Both countries were so beautiful and I had to explore and work in both. My favorite memories was getting a job as a videographer, filming tourists swimming with wild dolphins.
After completing my year abroad, I headed back to Kamloops and started upgrading some math and sciences at the local college. I applied and got accepted to the mechanical engineering program at Carleton University, located in Ottawa, Ontario. The time spent at University was important in developing my professional career as well as being able to meet many amazing people.
Upon completion of my bachelors degree, I was hired as a plant engineer with Ontario Power Generation in Renfrew, Ontario. In this position, I gained considerable knowledge of Engineering principles and teamwork skills while working as an Assistant Plant Engineer with Ontario Power Generation where my main duties included providing mechanical production and project support for 10 hydroelectric generating stations as well as being the onsite engineering support for several generator refurbishment and runner replacement projects.
After completing 5 years as a plant engineer with Ontario Power Generation, I decided to relocate back to Kamloops to be closer friends and family. In this time, I worked as an engineer at various fabrication shops in the Kamloops region. I applied and got accepted for my professional engineering license in 2017 and decided to start my own engineering consulting firm.
In 2018, I incorporated a new engineering company called Elite Engineering & Design which is full-service mechanical engineering firm providing innovative and practical solutions for commercial and industrial clients. From conceptual design to project completion, I work closely with my clients to clearly understand their individual needs to ensure their project exceeds all safety and performance criteria while reducing production time and costs.
Although operating a successful business was rewarding, I was looking for a way to have a larger positive impact for the community so I applied and got accepted to the B.Ed. (STEM) program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. This was an incredibly interesting program with lots of practicums at various schools within the Kamloops area.
Currently, I am a full-time math and science teacher at the Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux School in Lytton. This position has been a tremendous opportunity in allowing me to be immersed in a fully-indigenous school community while developing an innovative program focused on integrating science into the community’s knowledge and understanding of the local environment.
Utilizing my previous experience as a mechanical engineer and business owner, I focus on delivering hands-on learning and student-lead exploration and learning. I have also developed a student-lead robotics program using the latest Lego robotics sets which has proven so successful that the school is planning on sending a student-team to a robotics competition in Vancouver next year.
